How to Cook Chicken on a Gas Grill

If you want to know how to cook chicken on a gas grill, the main thing is that it is quite simple, as long as you bear a few pointers in mind. Grilled chicken tastes great and can be used in many different grilled chicken recipes.

You can either cook a whole chicken, cut up into pieces, or chicken breasts without skin or bones. Each of these cuts needs to be cooked in a different way and there are challenges to both. Cooking skinless, boneless chicken means you have to make sure the chicken does not overcook, dry out, and lose flavor. Cooking skin-on chicken means you have to avoid the potential flare ups caused by burning chicken fat.

How to Grill Chicken Breasts

If you are cooking skinless chicken, it is important to apply something to the chicken to stop it from drying out. This can be a marinade or a thin layer of oil. You should also flatten chicken breasts before grilling them so the thin bits do not dry out before the thick bits are cooked. You can do this by pounding the chicken breasts with a kitchen mallet.

Using Chicken to Make Chicken Salad Recipes

There is no reason why a salad has to be a boring plate of green leaves. Adding something as simple as chicken can really liven up your salad and make it something special. Perhaps you have some leftover cooked chicken from making one of our baked chicken recipes or crockpot chicken recipes, in which case you can use it to top your salad.

If you want to serve a warm chicken salad, why not fry some chicken with chopped bacon? Bacon and chicken are beautiful together and the grease from the bacon means you do not have to add any oil to the pan. Serving warm chicken over chilled salad leaves gives you a gourmet salad and the textures and temperatures contrast nicely as well as the flavors.

A chicken salad can be a lunch, an appetizer, or an entree. Serve the salad on a small plate if you want it for an appetizer and add a splash of color to make it look nice. Cherry tomatoes look good on chicken salad recipes or you could add a gourmet touch with some balsamic vinegar-drizzled strawberries.

How Long Does Chicken Keep?

If you have some chicken left over from making one of our easy chicken recipes, you might be wondering how long cooked chicken keeps in the refrigerator. Actually cooked chicken keeps for three or four days. It is usually fine for up to five days but it is safer to stick to the three or four day guideline, just to make sure.

Store the leftover chicken in a covered container in the coolest part of the refrigerator. If you do not think it is going to be eaten within a couple of days, you might want to freeze it instead.

How to Thaw Chicken

Thawed chicken should be cooked within twenty-four hours and you can thaw chicken in the microwave, in a cold water filled basin or bowl, or in the refrigerator. If you are defrosting it in the microwave or in a cold-water bath, you will need to cook it as soon as it has finished thawing.

Do not defrost chicken at room temperature because bacteria breeds at this temperature. It is never worth taking risks with chicken because it is so economical to buy. If you are in doubt about whether your chicken is safe to eat or not, throw it away rather than risking it.

Raw Chicken Storage

Uncooked chicken keeps for a couple of days in the refrigerator so if you aren't planning to eat it so soon you can either cook it or freeze it raw. When you buy fresh chicken, pay attention to the "use by" date on the packaging. If you plan to freeze the chicken, write the freezing date on the packaging and use the chicken within six months.

Healthy Chicken Recipes - All the Flavor without the Fat

Chicken is really versatile and easy chicken recipes range from the extremely nutritious to the fat-laden dishes you might be trying to avoid. Deep fried chicken is not the healthiest dish you could choose, nor is chicken in a cheesy, creamy sauce, but there are so many healthy chicken recipes to choose from and lots of these taste just as amazing as the more calorie-laden ones.

If you are looking for low fat chicken recipes or low calorie chicken dishes, consider flavoring the chicken before you cook it, rather than making a fattening sauce or dressing.

For example, if you poach a boneless chicken breast in water with a little white wine added to it and perhaps some fresh parsley too, you will end up with a delicately flavored chicken breast, which can be served with a salad. If you simply poach the chicken in water it will not have the herb and wine flavor and you will be tempted to add flavor with a creamy, high fat dressing.

Easy Breast Chicken Recipes

Boneless chicken has very little connective tissue or fat, which means it is naturally healthy but also prone to dry out if you do not take care when cooking it. You can use cooking spray instead of oil for pan-frying chicken or you can smoke the chicken to give it lots of flavor.

Since the smoke gives the flavor to the chicken, this is a great way to maximize flavor without adding calories or fat to it. Chicken can be a dieter's best friend because it is naturally healthy yet satisfying and supremely tasty.
